Why Upgrade to WordPress 3.0?

You’ve probably already know from the notice in your dashboards that WordPress 3.0 has been released. And, if you haven’t already done so – upgrade!

NOTE: If you are a current AIM Custom Media client on a service contract, just site back and relax; we already upgraded your site. Also, we found a few WordPress plugins that needed attention as well (that’s done too).

Why Upgrade?

WordPress 3.0 is faster, stabler, and more secure. The changes are significant. And, the upgrade allows you to focus on what matters – your content and your customers. Subsequent to upgrading your site, you’ll notice a few changes to the design of the Dashboard. Also, there are additional features to use while managing your content, such as:

  • Custom post types,
  • MU merge,
  • Menu editor,
  • More theme options (widgets, etc.), and
  • Over 1,200 bug fixes (that’s tech jargon for things that were supposed to work in previous versions but didn’t always do so).

If you’re not one of our lucky clients on a monthly plan and you need support upgrading, just give me a call. We’ll be glad to provide the support. In no time we’ll have you using the best WordPress yet.

Here’s an excerpt from the WordPress.org blog:

Arm your vuvuzelas: WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard). Major new features in this release include a sexy new default theme called Twenty Ten. Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. . . . Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation. As a user, you will love the new lighter interface, the contextual help on every screen, the 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements, bulk updates . . . blah blah blah.
