A little R & R

A week in Vail and Beaver Creek cures the winter blues. Vail is a great place to ski, but it’s expensive. Lift tickets are $90, but you can buy them in advance for $78 from this site. Beaver Creek – adjacent to Vail – was developed by the same company that developed Vail. They have record amounts of snow and the skiing is excellent.

I was lucky this year. A group of high school friends invited me to join them in a “ski in-out condo” located right on the slopes of Beaver Creek. Really, really, nice place with hot tubs, state-of-the-art kitchen, bathrooms/showers in every room, etc.

The vision of Vail Valley began when the founder of Vail, Pete Siebert, dreamed of creating a European-style ski village in the pristine area he discovered while serving with the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. His dream became a reality in 1965 when he opened the nearby Vail ski resort, and after the success of Vail, Pete’s team decided to extend
his vision to Beaver Creek in 1980. Today, millions of visitors from all over the world flock to the area.

I hope to join them again next year.
